Worm Shafts
A worm shaft sets the mesh for the whole drive, so its lead and thread form have to stay concentric to the bearing journals or the gear set runs hot and loses life. We thread mill worm shafts up to 12 inches in diameter and 54 inches long, in pitches from 2 DP and up, with ground bearing diameters, keyways, through holes, splines, and CNC thread grinding available.
Every shaft is built to print for new applicaitons, or reverse-engineered from a worn sample for a gearbox going back into service. We machine them in ferrous and nonferrous materials to suit the application.
